By design is meant the appearance of a product, ie that it is a pure form or appearance protection for the design in question. The protection thus does not cover underlying technical ideas or functions.

In order to obtain design protection for an ingredient of a composite product, it must be visible during normal use. Design protection can be obtained for both utility and ornamental design. Ornaments can also be protected and means that the protection comprises a product part in the form of decoration, such as wallpaper, fabrics or cleaning cloths with a surface decoration or a relief.
